Check out my new book essay in the San Francisco Bay Guardian...

It's called Lust and Loss, and it's a review of three titles:

Landscape, by Christopher Russell
What Do Gay Men Want?, by David Halperin
Good Sex Illustrated, by Tony Duvert

Let me know what you think...

hi darling,

well-written! i think you make a very good point about halperin's book & how it could have benefited from contemplating outsider status and how our queer worlds interact with that.

i've been seeing a bit of halperin lately, in fact, since i know him through a friend. strange coincidence, eh? the other day he was introducing the director of the warhol museum.

much xoxo,

Deena, you run into everyone in Ann Arbor... or, I guess, maybe it's hard not to run into people in Ann Arbor, the queer worlds...

Thanks, darling -- I try I try I try... Now, if only I could sleep -- let's just hope that my next-door neighbors aren't having blowout sex again at 8 a.m. tomorrow, 8 a.m. hate a.m.

And I'll check out your blog, thanks for letting me know!

i just read your piece. i especially liked this sentence: 'in a homophobic culture, what gay sexual behavior, after all, isn't risky?'

And that one's even in parentheses!
