Check out my marriage commentary today on AlterNet

Yay -- it's up on the main page, or here -- I'm guessing there will be some scandalized comments from gay marriage advocates and confused liberals, so if you get a chance feel free to contribute some insight and charm...

Hey Mattilda,

Did you notice that Alternet links to a gay pro-marriage article from yours ("a different take"), but not the other way around? Shady.

Harris, you're right -- that is shady -- and they even link to that commentary twice!

Thanks for pointing it out...

Right now, the middle- to upper-middle, "bourgeois" or capitalist class is the dominant class in the world, as well as in our own country. Its values are the dominant values.

Obviously, gays in that class are going to fight for equal access to the privileges granted to the rest of the people in that class, and that includes the privileges attached to marriage.

The hope that middle-class queers are going to suddenly join forces with working-class or underclass queers to fight for things like universal health care, etc. or an end to privilege at all, is a liberal pipe dream in itself, a dream that ignores or downplays the role of class in shaping the nature of political interest and struggle.

Miss Guided, thanks for stopping by -- I certainly agree with your analysis -- my point is not necessarily hope so much as accountability.
